A nurse and professional educator with 30+ years of experience, Barbara Kalina holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Mundelein College in Chicago, IL. Retiring after twenty-three years in the classroom, Barbara continues to provide professional workshops. Her areas of expertise include research-based literacy strategies, teaching strategies for variable-length time periods to work within the schedule, and middle school philosophy implementation as well as teaming/small learning community organization.
As an association and Board member of the Association of Illinois Middle-Grade Schools, she conducted workshops in teaming and instructional strategies. Barbara also served as an adjunct professor at Benedictine University and National Louis University, each in Illinois, teaching courses on middle school philosophy, methods and curriculum. She is a trained presenter for BRIM, Breaking Ranks in the Middle, a NASSP program.
She belongs to the National Council for Teachers of English and National Association for Secondary School Principals. She has written for the AIMS journals and Web site and the National Association of Elementary School Principals bulletin.
